Before God saved us, we were dead. There was nothing we could have done to save ourselves. But at the core of God’s character, He IS rich in mercy. That is His nature. And He loved us so much that even when we were dead in our sin, He saved us.

“But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved” Ephesians 2:4-5
